Students Work

My recent class was Go Big or Go Home. It was a great opportunity for students to create large format work with a little guidance. For many of them it was their first time going big. (24x30) Students brought in an image/ photo references and away they went. I thought I would share a few of their pieces. I think they turned out great.

Part of teaching is understanding what style each student is trying to achieve and help them get there. Allison loves abstract landscapes and loose brushwork. She had done a small painting in the past (shown on left) and wanted to blow it up in size.

Ann took this image in Chicago on Lake MI. She fell in love with the big clouds and boats on the water, wanting to capture that quiet afternoon.

Renee's current series places figures with umbrellas in unexplored places. It's not about where they are, but the mood that is created. She says the red umbrella is symbolic of God's mercy and love covering His children.

Bob also decided to take one of his small studies and make it larger. His portrayal captures the soft sun soaked summer hillside you'd see hiking in most Northern CA hillsides.
